Assistant Aquatic Director Job Description
Responsible to: Aquatics Director
Qualifications:
- Must be of legal age.
- Sincere and genuine interest in working with individuals with intellectual and/or physical disabilities.
- Interest, knowledge and skills in field of swimming.
- Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities and programming in swimming preferred.
- Must have Medication Manager certification for Iowa or in-house Medication Manager Course within 30 days. Adult & Child Mandatory Reporter
- CPO Certification a plus.
- Current Lifeguard certification. Must have Waterfront Lifeguard certification within 6 months.
- Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
- Ability to walk long distances and stand for long periods of time; ability to tolerate a variety of weather conditions; ability to lift and carry at least 50lbs.
- CDL license encouraged.
Position Overview:
With the aid of the Program Director and Aquatics Director, the Assistant Aquatics Director is responsible for organizing and administering a quality aquatics program. The Assistant Aquatic Director is responsible for the safety and welfare of all campers participating in swimming activities.
General Responsibilities: Assistant Aquatic Director
- Develop and implement quality swimming activities geared to the specific age group and ability level of the campers.
- Organize and expand total program, developing activities with the goals and objectives of the program in mind.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Full participation in orientation program with leadership role in swimming area.
- Be aware of all safety rules and procedures. Make safety top priority in all activities.
- Uphold all camp policies.
- Be present at program meeting to:
- Receive information about camper groups related to programming.
- Work with program staff to develop a schedule of activities in the swimming area for the upcoming camper group.
- Provide input for developing evening programs, all camp activities, and special events.
- If available assist with clean-up of evening programs.
- Be present at staff meetings to:
- Work with other staff to ensure quality programming the in the swimming area.
- Be present at scheduling meetings to:
- Explain new activities and make needed announcements.
- Double check counselor’s schedules each week.
- Communicate to Aquatics Director any concerns or ideas relating to camper problems, program activities or staff working relationships.
- Support the Aquatics Director in their duties, as they consider appropriate and necessary.
- Familiarize yourself as much as possible with campers’ individual backgrounds and needs by reading applications of campers before they arrive.
Additional Specific Responsibilities:
- Plan at least five hours of swimming activities each day, Monday through Thursday.
- Have schedule planned and posted by 2 PM each Sunday in the summer.
- Organize and maintain supplies and equipment in the pool building.
- Report equipment needs and repairs.
