Going the Extra Mile (Literally!) for Camp Courageous

At Camp Courageous, every dollar counts—and so does every mile.

When it came time to finish the remodel of the South Cabin, camp found a fantastic deal on high-quality Murphy beds located all the way in New Denver, British Columbia. While the price was right, the cost of freight to get them to Monticello was not. That’s when longtime staff member Craig Lampe stepped in, who is part of the Camp maintenance team, and is also a retired over-the-road truck driver.

What followed was a 6-day, 3,571-mile journey through mountains, international borders, customs paperwork, and tight timelines. Craig tackled it all—navigating Canadian highways, unexpected delays at the weigh station, detours at the U.S. border, and countless hours behind the wheel. And he did it all with one goal: to help Camp Courageous stretch donor dollars as far as possible.

As Craig puts it, “It wasn’t just about delivering a load. Everything we do here, big or small, plays a role in creating a better experience for the campers—and I’m glad to be part of that, whatever the job.”

This is just one example of how support is multiplied through the dedication and heart of the team. When you give to Camp Courageous, you’re not just funding a project—you’re helping fuel a mission.
