Honorary Board Member, Gary Turbes, Camp Courageous’ First Executive Director, Retires at 80, After 47-years At Mid-Step Services

Congratulations to Gary Turbes and his wife Jan on his retirement from Mid-Step Services-where they are enhancing abilities…enriching lives.  Gary founded Mid-Step Services and is retiring after 47-years!  Gary is a Camp Courageous Honorary Board Member and was the first Executive Director of Camp Courageous.  Gary started out with group homes in Charles City, moved on to Camp Courage and then to Mid-Step.  Mid-Step now has 300 individuals served and 400 on staff.  They provide residential, vocational, educational, and recreational services to people with intellectual disabilities in a caring, supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to reach his or her highest potential.  Gary too helped found Camp High Hopes, a camp like Courageous, located in Sioux City, where he looks forward to volunteering in retirement. Gary has been a wonderful mentor to Camp Courageous!  We wish Gary & Jan exceptional health and happiness in their next chapter together!
