Inspirational Camper, Stella Turnbull Passes, By Kaite Ryan, Former Camp Courageous Program Director

Camper Stella Turnbull was a fierce and courageous camper- Stella attended Camp Courageous during MDA (Muscular Dystrophy Association) week for three years and ‘graduated’ from youth MDA week in 2024. During her time at camp over the three years, she conquered the pool, Zipline and Burma bridge along with all the traditional camp activities. Now, for your typical camper at Camp Courageous, this is a big feat. However, for Stella it required a bit more rigging of systems and support… Stella’s nurse Cheyenne along with the Camp Program staff adapted each activity to make it possible to conquer her goals while at camp.

Stella’s vent was carried along with her into the pool for the full experience. The Camp Courageous  Zipline is rigged with a box for a ventilator and additional head supports to make it possible for her to soar through camp safely. And lastly, the Camp Courageous Burma Bridge was adapted in 2024 with additional climbing gear and rigging systems to get her across the full bridge and back.!

Camp was lucky to have known Stella, and her family over the past few years.

To take a lesson from Stella… to be courageous and live life to the fullest each and every day.
