John & Mary Jane Engquist of Waterloo/Jesup IA Share Their Precious Treasures With Courageous

Had the wonderful opportunity to spend time with Mary Jane and John Engquist of Waterloo, IA (before that Jesup).  What a delightful couple!  I love the opportunity to learn about people’s past, and the Engquist are a fascinating couple, having met in Virginia, and eventually returned to Mary Jane’s roots in Jesup, after John retired in 1996 from Potomac Electric.  They have been married for 49-years…both outdoorsy folks who love to hike and enjoy all there is to see, across this beautiful country.  Mary Jane’s sister is Emi Zuck (Dale) of Jesup…all great Camp supporters.  Of course, we hit it off when I learned his first car was a 1963 VW Beetle 😊.  During this visit, John & Mary Jane donated to the Camp Perpetual Fund and donated 18 limited edition and signed prints…that are absolutely stunning, along with some stuffed animals as gifts for the campers!  Sixteen of the prints are Charles L. Peterson works.  Peterson does a remarkable job of providing reflections in his works.  Peterson’s “Memories Collection” of limited-edition prints combine the elements of an old, forgotten site with the very subtle reflection of the special times that are still real for those who remember.  In addition, they donated two Jesse Barnes limited edition prints that are gorgeous winter scenes.  Jesse Barnes was nicknamed “The Light Painter” for his pioneering work in creating lighting effects with paint. Barnes also has at least one owl included somewhere in almost every painting he produces..  One will be able to see some of this collection in the coming days on the Camp Courageous Pineapple Gala Auction site.  We are grateful to the Engquists’ for sharing their treasurers with Courageous.  Super couple! cwb
