Long Time Camp Courageous Nature, Horse, & Canoe Director, Jess Maier, Passes At 44…

Camp Courageous is deeply saddened by the passing of one of it’s own, Jess Maier, 44, from Lapeer, MI.  Jess not only directed, but she was 100% hands on with Camp Courageous’ nature, canoing, and horse programs for years. She was a trail blazer and brought new and exciting opportunities to each of these areas for campers.  The campers loved Jess.  She had tremendous dedication toward bringing happiness and fun into the lives of the campers.  Jess also made it a joy to be a part of the Camp Family.  Her constant smile, positive attitude, and a prank now and then, made her a real gem to work with.  Unknown to Jess, she was probably camp’s most recognizable staffer.  Jess, lifting a camper from his wheelchair into a canoe, is one of the most seen videos in the history of Camp Courageous…easily hundreds of thousands of people have seen that iconic scene.  Jess’ long battle with cancer is over…may she now rest in peace…knowing the lives she touched in her own special way…is endless…
