Long Time Camp Supporter & Cedar Valley Street Rod Member, Butch Slocum Passes…

It is with great sadness, Camp Courageous learned of the passing of George ‘Butch’ Slocum,81, of Marion, IA.  Butch was one of those first to have faith in the relationship between Camp Courageous and the Cedar Valley Street Rods.  In 1985 Life Investors celebrated their 25th Anniversary by having a raffle of a McLaren sports car.  Camp Courageous Board Member and Life Investor’s Executive VP, Art Christoffersen, headed the raffle.  The Cedar Valley Street Rod Club brought their special cars to LI and bought 100s of dollars’ worth of raffle tickets.  They filled out the raffle tickets with Camp’s name.  Thus a 40-year relationship was born.  Butch, along with Randy Faulkner, Dennis Phifner, and Denny  Moeller, represented Cedar Valley Street Rods in that first meetings at KCRG-TV & Radio.   Art Christoffersen, was the key player, having a relationship with all the organizations.  That first year, Butch would give campers rides in his street rod, to the camper’s thrill, and later he would give the public rides to raise money for the Camp.  Butch was always willing to do the above and beyond.  He and Lynn had a beautiful relationship, sharing in each other’s joys.  Soft spoken, good and caring…Butch will be very dearly missed…For 40-years Butch was one of the first people one would see coming in to Cruisin’ For Camp Courageous, as he would register cars.  Butch desired his memorials go to Camp Courageous.  www.campcourageous.org/donate
