Longest Serving Volunteer, Gloria Ford, Passes

It is with great sadness that Camp Courageous mourns the passing of Gloria Ford, 93, of Anamosa.  Gloria and her husband, Harold, were among the first volunteers at Camp Courageous.  As active V.F.W. and Auxiliary members they launched a campaign to support the Camp and to also convince their State organization to become equally involved.  Their dedication and hard work paid off in the long run, where for nearly 50-years the Iowa V.F.W. and Auxiliary have been supporting Camp on the Local, State, and National levels.  In addition, over the past few years, the National Auxiliary Presidents have visited Camp.  Gloria was Camp’s longest serving volunteer.  For decades she was a regular in the office…and anywhere at Camp she was needed.  Gloria was a member of the Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame in Des Moines.  In 2005 Gloria received the “Nine Who Care Award”.  The picture used here is of Gloria in 2006 receiving the Jacquline Kennedy Onassis Award for Outstanding Volunteerism in Washington DC.  Over the years Gloria received countless well deserved awards for her dedication and help to those less fortunate…she lead by example.  Gloria had a heart of gold.  Camp’s sympathy goes out to Gloria’s wonderful family and friends.  Her legacy here at Camp Courageous will live on by the example she set.  Gloria and her Family requested memorials be made to Camp Courageous (www.campcourageous.org/donate)
