Longtime Camper, Rachel White, 43, Passes…Leaves A Deep Void At Camp…
Camp Courageous is deeply saddened by the passing of longtime camper, Rachel White, 43, in her home operated by Systems Unlimited in Coralville. She was raised in Marion, IA, and was a 2001 graduate of Linn Mar Schools. Rachel was fortunate to be born into the family of Phil & Laura White of Marion…two super dedicated individuals and great advocates for Rachel, and for all those with disabilities. During Rachel’s nearly 50 visits in over 30-years to Camp Courageous (1986-2020), she was always a huge hit with staff…everyone loved Rachel! She brought abounding love and laughter to all. Camp Courageous was always on the back of Rachel’s thoughts. When she had some serious health situations and was put in Hospice Care in Iowa City, she told her folks, ‘tell camp hip hurts’. Phil wrote, “Camp has meant a lot to her and she is thinking about you guys.” Rachel is now at peace…and her legacy will live on in the people she inspired and the lives she brightened. Camp’s sincere sympathy goes out to Rachel’s folks, Phil & Laura, a couple exceptional Camp volunteers, supporters, and wonderful advocates, along with other family and friends. The family requested memorials go to Camp Courageous www.campcourageous.org/donate/ or Hospice in Iowa City in Rachel’s name.
