Mabel & John Kremer’s Legacy Lives On At Camp Courageous Through Their Nine Children.

Mabel and John Kremer were married on January 10, 1940.  Together they raised a wonderful family on their farm in rural Prairieburg, IA.  John passed in 1987 and Mabel passed at her home near Praireburg in 2010 at the age of 95.  They had 9 children, Betty Williams of Arlington, Texas, Richard N. Kremer of Clovis, California, JoAnn (Don) Stadtmiller of Longmont, Colorado, Dorothy (Merle) Johnson of Bayview, Idaho, John J. (Rose) Kremer of Oswego, Illinois, Allen (Charlotte) Kremer of Pearland, Texas, Thomas Kremer (Penny Schild) of Gillette, Wyoming, Cletus Kremer of Coggon, Iowa, and Mary Kremer of Las Vegas.

After John’s passing, Mabel became very active with Camp Courageous.  Mabel looked closely at the Camp’s needs list for decades and tried to help where ever she could.   for decades, starting with the building of the new lodge in the early ’90’s.  There wasn’t a project she didn’t support.  She gave camp countless fruits and vegetables from her garden, made quilts for the campers, honored all her children and grandchildren with pool blocks at the camp pool, has rooms in Multi- Dorm and Beckwith dorm, a plaque in the office, the train, and provided camp a new computer server.  Mabel left an incredible legacy at Camp Courageous. Mabel was an excellent gardener with a “green thumb” to envy. She loved her vegetable garden and flower gardens, sharing many vegetables, plants and bulbs with her friends. In the winter, she enjoyed making quilts for her children and donated many of them to Camp Courageous.

John & Mabel’s Family have done a beautiful job of keeping the legacy of their family alive and growing.  They continue to send memorials of loved ones and gifts to honor family and friends.  Son, Cletus Kremer, visits Camp, almost weekly with fresh fruit and vegetables and other needed items…the tradition continues!

Son, Tom, recently donated toward a new van at Camp, to acknowledge his parents and brothers and sisters.  The family recently came to celebrate the family in Prairieburg and Camp made sure their van was there and Camp had the opportunity to personally thank them.
