Camp Courageous Nursing Staff
PRN – Summer & Fall (May – December) / Respite Care weekends
Position Summary:
Camp Courageous is a year-round recreational and respite care facility for individuals with disabilities, brain injuries, hearing or visual impairments, autism and other special needs are served.
Working with children and adults with special needs is often a very real challenge. Patience, energy, good judgment and enthusiasm are important qualifications for a position at Camp Courageous.
Nursing duties include but not limited to:
- Be responsible for medications or first aid items brought to camp by campers, staff and volunteers
- Conduct a physical exam and assessment of campers within 24 hours of their arrival and prior to departure from camp.
- Administer appropriate first-aid.
- Document accurately all administration of prescribed medications and treatments, and any injuries of campers, staff and volunteers.
- Discuss important health issues regarding specific camper needs with the assigned counselor as needed.
- Assist with the check-in process of campers.
- Review upcoming camper files to be aware of camper’s special needs.
- Assist with cleaning and sanitation of the Nursing Department, equipment and supplies.
- Supervise and provide direction to the Health Staff Assistant.
- Adhere to standards of nursing practice, according to established policies and procedures endorsed by the Camp Courageous Nursing Department.
Qualifications:
- RN, LPN or a medical professional currently licensed in the state of Iowa.
- Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR
- Experience in school nursing, community health, camp nursing, or involvement with individuals having disabilities. (An asset but not a requirement)
Camp is currently looking to fill the PRN staffing needs for the months of May through December and camp is also looking for a Respite Care Nurse.
