Sister Mary Assumpta Glaser (right) has been supporting Camp Courageous since she was a Principal at Monticello’s Sacred Heart School in the 1970s. She volunteered at camp, helping feed the volunteers, staff, and campers and other tasks as needed. She writes, “My interest in your work and the accomplishments of Camp Courageous probably results from several things: my early school life was very challenging; throughout the years I’ve had the opportunity to work with youngsters with specific challenges, individually and in the classroom; a young great nephew has downs syndrome.” Sister Mary Assumpta continued to help the camp, along with the help of Sister Ann Rubly (left), by collecting used greeting cards for the camp’s arts and crafts program. The sisters are pictured here with cases of cards.  Bob Becker, would stop by Mount St. Francis, in Dubuque, regularly, to pick-up the cards and deliver them to Camp.  Sister Mary Assumpta was compassionate, humble, and dedicated.  She was also inspirational.  We had many great visits over the years.  She believed in leading by example, like establishing wells in third world countries.  For years she led teams that travel to some of the most challenging areas of our world, seeking to establish basic needs.  Sister Mary Assumpa Glaser’s picture hangs in my office with some of her inspirational thoughts…helping continue her beautiful legacy…

Greetings Charlie,

Trust you are having beautiful days at the “Camp”!

Life for me has turned another direction weakening my ability to move about easily.  Before this happened Sr. Anne and I had prepared some boxes of cards to send to Camp.   I’ll contact Bob this weekend to make arrangements for a pickup.

This, however, will be the last that will come your way.  Sorry to share this news—I’m not able and Sr. Anne is quite involved in the care of her sister and other things.  Trust, this will not end my interest in Camp Courageous and all that is being accomplished there.

Blessings, Charlie, and your ministry with God’s little ones,

Sister Mary Assumpta
