Volunteering at Camp Courageous
Camp Courageous strives each day to enhance the lives of individuals with special needs through providing exceptional recreational and respite care opportunities. Volunteers play a critical role in this mission. Camp welcomes individuals and groups of all ages and abilities to volunteer their time and talents. Each individual has unique gifts, and there are a variety of volunteer opportunities at Camp Courageous to share one’s gifts. Whether a few hours, days, months, or even years, your volunteerism makes a difference for thousands of individuals with special needs.

General Volunteer Application at Camp Courageous:
Anyone wanting to volunteer at Camp Courageous for the first time is asked to fill out the main Volunteer Application. Returning volunteers do not need to fill out the application and can contact the Volunteer Direct by emailing volunteer@campcourageous.org or by calling 319-465-5916, ext. 2340. Note that some volunteer positions, such as those involving interaction with campers, also require a background check.
Camp offers opportunities that align with varying interests and skill levels:
Administration: If you enjoy answering phones, clerical work, giving tours or helping wherever is needed, administration might be a good place for you to volunteer.
Dietary: If you enjoy cooking, baking, cleaning, or serving food to others the Camp’s dietary department is always looking for volunteers to help preparing food to serve to campers and staff.
Facilities: If you enjoy painting, building, are able to lift heaving objects, or enjoy working on landscaping there is always a project going on around Camp. If these activities sound good to you the Facilities Department would be a good place for you to volunteer.
Nursing: Camp’s nursing staff is always looking for volunteers. To volunteer in this department you’ll need to be a CNA, RN, LPN, or have your medication manager certification.
Program: If you enjoy being active and working with youth or adult campers then the Program Department may be the spot for you! Volunteering your time in this department will give you hands on experience with the campers during their day-to-day activities.
Travel: If you enjoy traveling and helping campers the Travel Program might be the place for you to volunteer. Camp takes adult campers on many trips throughout the year and are in need of volunteers to help. You must be able to walk long distances, be active, on the go all day, and be able to lift.
