Long Time Friend Of Camp Courageous, Robert “Bob” Deppe, 95, of Ames, IA Dies.
Camp Courageous is saddened by the passing of long time camp supporter and friend, Robert “Bob” Deppe, 95, of Ames, IA. “An Iowa farm boy in hard times, a young Marine, scholar, husband, educator, businessman, father, thinker, leader, and cherished friend!” is how Bob Deppe, was described by a friend of seventy-five-years. Bob was a fascinating individual and I encourage one to read his obituary at: https://www.grandonfuneralandcremationcare.com/obituary/666123/Robert-Bob-Dean-Deppe/
It was only 3-years ago that Bob & Carol Deppe invited Camp Courageous to give a program to the Green Hills Retirement Community, along with others from the area. Over the years Bob gave Camp Courageous many opportunities to give programs about the Camp to Ames area organizations. The Deppe roots go back to teaching in Monticello for three years in the late 1950s. They never forgot Monticello and the friends they made here. They moved from Monticello to Ames yet never really left. They had recently donated 127-acres of land along I-35, between Ames and Story City, which they had stewarded for over 50-years, to the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation. Like this land, everything Bob & Carol have touched, they have left it better, for future generations to enjoy.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests gifts to Camp Courageous: https://campcourageous.org/donate/
