Life Long Friend, Don Stamy, 92, Of Cedar Rapids Passes. Leaves a Legacy Integrity And Hard Work…

It was with great sadness that Camp Courageous was made aware of the passing of Don Stamy, 92, of Cedar Rapids. Don and I have been friends for 55-years. Don was one of the nicest and most kind individuals anyone could ever meet. His integrity was unswerving. Don would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. Don was born on May 19, 1933, the son of Elmer Otto and Edith (Lutz) Stamy at his maternal grandparents’ farm, which is now the city of Hiawatha, Iowa. After graduating from Marion High School in 1950 and the University of Iowa in 1954, he farmed with his parents in the Robins area for over 35 years. That farm has been in the Stamy family since 1865 and is now known as the Stamy Legacy Farm. He then worked for the Iowa Court Administration for 19-years. Don was very active in the Masonic Fraternity, where he was 70+ year member of Marion Lodge and held leadership positions in the Scottish Rite, York Rite, Eastern Star, and Shrine. He was Grand Master of the Masons in Iowa in 1979. His friendship with other Masonic leaders, like Camp Courageous Honorary Board Members Tom Eggleston and Denny Zahrt, and dozens of others, brought many new friends into the Camp Courageous family. Don is survived by the love of his life, Joanne E. Hendricks of Cedar Rapids and a sister, Mary Susan Taylor of Solon, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. Don will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Each of us, are better people today, because Don invested his time into making us better, by setting an exemplary example for us. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous (www.campcourageous.org/donate) -Charlie
