Camper Levi Hefflefinger’s Story About Collecting Can Tabs

At last year’s annual omelet breakfast, Levi saw a sign for can tabs and wanted to know what it was for. He learned that Camp collected can tabs, which they turned in for money. He decided that day that he wanted to start collecting can tabs because he wanted to give back to where he enjoys going to camp. What started out as keeping a container at home to put can tabs in, morphed into collecting them at weddings and family and friend gatherings. He then decided to create containers to give to local businesses and friends to make it easier for them to collect them. His goal was to collect a tote full of tabs to donate to camp. After a year of collecting cabs and with the generosity of family, friends and local businesses he was able to reach his goal! He was able to donate his tote of can tabs to Camp on July 11th, 2025. He also decided to turn this mission into a 4-H project in the area of Citizenship by creating a poster to promote the cause and to share his journey. He earned a blue ribbon at the Jones County fair! Levi said just because he reached his goal, he still isn’t done collecting tabs! This interest has definitely turned into a passion project. Levi is a wonderful camper, an inspiration to all…and we all look forward to Levi’s visits to Camp!
