Congratulations to Camp Courageous’ dear friend, Duane “Speed” Herrig, also known as “The Sauceman,” for receiving the 2025 Honorary Master Pork Producer Award! Also a huge thank you to Speed for bringing his Cookies BBQ Wagon to Monticello, IA to benefit Camp Courageous year after year! Speed is a founding member of the Iowa Barbecue Society and Owner of Cookies Food Products in Wall Lake, Iowa. Speed started in the barbecue sauce business in the 1970’s and is a legend across the Midwest, making Camp Courageous grateful that he chose them to be part of this benefit. Speed has been a dear friend since the Camp Courageous and the Cookies booths were neighbors at the Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Stores of Iowa Convention for decades in Des Moines, going back to the early 80s.

With Speed (L) is Cooper Yonkovic, who has been a camper at Camp Courageous during Muscular Dystrophy Week. With every visit to Monticello, the two enjoy some quality time.

In addition to Speed’s recognition by the Pork Producers, Camp Courageous would like to acknowledge long time Camp Courageous volunteer, (and wife of former Camp Courageous Board President, Aaron Cook), Trish Cook. Trish is a Buchanan County, Iowa hog farmer, is a prominent leader in the pork industry who served as the first female president of the Iowa Pork Producers Association (IPPA) in 2023. She co-owns CBL Farms and Cook Brothers Ltd. near Winthrop, marketing 42,000 pigs annually. Cook is active in national leadership, serving on the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) Board of Directors, where she advocates for producer rights, trade opportunities, and addressing regulatory challenges.
