Bill Marsh From San Bruno, CA Passes…Camp Supporter/Volunteer…Son Of Leigh Clark, Camp Fruitcake Founder

In 1988 Camp Courageous Board Member, Leigh Clark, donated his fruitcake recipe to Camp Courageous and began baking fruitcakes in the camp lodge kitchen as a fund raiser for Camp…a fund raiser that grew to baking 10,000 fruitcakes a year!   Leigh was honored, when his son, Bill Marsh of San Bruno, CA began volunteering to help his dad.  Bill easily won the award for coming the furthest, flying from San Bruno, CA!  Bill was a lifetime supporter of Camp Courageous and recently passed at the age of 98!

Bill’s History:  Bill was born in Colorado, where his dad, Forest Marsh died in a motor vehicle accident.  His mother, Florence (Skelley) Marsh, returned to Monticello with her children, Virginia, and Bill.  There she met Leigh Clark, a builder, and they married.  Leigh was a loving husband and a father to Virginia, Bill and a new daughter, Merileigh.  Bill flew P-40 Flying Tiger fighter planes in WWII.  Following the war, he came back to Monticello and married Helen McLaughlin.  They were married for 57-years.  After 8-years of farming, Bill & Helen headed to Bruno, CA where he worked for United Airlines for 32-years (during some of these years United Airlines was flying jet fresh pineapple from Hawaii as a fund raiser for Camp).  Bill had a lot of the characteristics of Leigh Clark…a good, caring, and wonderful person of great integrity!  Camp’s sympathy goes out to Bill’s family and friends.
