Dietary Cook Job Description
Camp Courageous, Monticello, IA
Position Purpose: Camp Courageous is seeking a Dietary Cook to prepare and serve nutritious meals for campers, staff, and guests. Meals are prepared for approximately 60 individuals (about 90 portions per meal). This position also supports camper dietary accommodations including allergies and special diets while maintaining safe and sanitary kitchen practices.
Reports To: Dietary Director
Schedule: Weekends, based on Respite Weekend Schedule and Partnership Events.
- Saturday: 7:00 AM – 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM
- Sunday: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
- Opportunity to pick up additional PRN (as-needed) shifts.
Required Qualifications
- Food service or cooking experience required
- Experience with knife handling and food preparation/cutting skills required
- Ability to prepare large quantities of food efficiently
- Knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
- Strong organizational and teamwork skills
- Ability to work independently when needed
- General knowledge of Special Diets and the Big 9 Food Allergens required
Position Responsibilities
- Prepare and serve nutritious meals for campers, staff, and guests.
- Prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals following standardized recipes.
- Cook for approximately 60 individuals (about 90 portions per meal).
- Accommodate camper dietary needs including food allergies and special diets.
- Maintain safe food handling and sanitary kitchen standards.
- Follow USDA and ACA food safety guidelines.
- Assist with kitchen organization, food storage, and inventory control.
- Work cooperatively with dietary staff and camp leadership.
Physical Demands
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
- Expect frequent standing, squatting, walking, sitting, and climbing.
