Camp Courageous is saddened by the passing of Andrew “Andy” Hoover, 85, at his home in Denver, Colorado.

Andy and his wife of 50 years, Jeanie, along with their children and grandchildren, visited Camp Courageous on several occasions and were dedicated supporters of the Camp. They proudly wore Camp Courageous apparel from Colorado to New York, helping share their enthusiasm for the Camp wherever they lived or traveled.

During one of their recent visits, his family enjoyed a special escorted tour of Weber Stone Quarries, hosted by owner Mike Deutmeyer, grandson of Camp Courageous Honorary Board Member Bill Weber, the company’s founder. The visit held special significance, as the stone used to construct Andy’s grandfather’s Presidential Library in West Branch, Iowa, came from Weber Stone Quarries. The same line of stone was used during a recent major renovation of the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum.

Andy was born on November 9, 1940, in Palo Alto, California, to Allan Hoover and Margaret Coberly Hoover. He was the grandson of President Herbert Hoover and FirstLady Lou Henry Hoover, both Iowa natives. Childhood memories with his grandparents left a lasting impression, and he often shared stories of spending a summer in New YorkCity with President Hoover—an experience that inspired his lifelong appreciation forhistory, engineering, and public service.

Throughout his life, Andy was deeply committed to preserving his grandfather’s legacy. He served on the boards of the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum, theHerbert Hoover Presidential Foundation, and the Board of Overseers of the HooverInstitution, dedicating countless hours to promoting the values and history of President Hoover, the great humanitarian.

Camp Courageous extends its heartfelt sympathy to Andy’s beloved wife, Jeanie; his children, Margaret Hoover (John Avlon) and Alexander (Margaret) Hoover; his grandchildren; and his many other family members and friends. Andy’s friendship, generosity, and support of Camp Courageous will be remembered with great appreciation, and he will be greatly missed.
