What a wonderful surprise it was to have former Camp Courageous Board Member Julie Nosek (center) and her daughters, Robin Nosek (left) and Elizabeth Nosek (right) make a surprise visit to Camp Courageous! Julie’s father, Dr. Earl DeShaw was the Founder of the Camp Courageous Perpetual Fund in 1980. Julie, her mother, Selma, and the entire family remember making Perpetual Fund calls with Dr. DeShaw. Robin was a student of mine when I student taught in Monticello in 1976! Julie served on the Camp Board from 1988-1994, but she never stopped serving and promoting Camp Courageous, since its inception. Julie and her daughters all live in Colorado. It was an exceptional thrill for me to personally show them Camp and thank them for the seed Dr. DeShaw planted – a seed that grew into something so great. Julie is the one person who can truly appreciate, in depth, what her family started as a dream. I will be forever grateful for the DeShaw family for taking me under their wing when I was just 25 years old and for helping me and Camp Courageous grow into the facility it is today. I’m forever humbled and grateful…-Charlie Becker
