Camp Courageous’ most heartwarming sympathy goes out to the family and friends of Wanda Siebels Ahrendsen of Webster, NY who passed away peacefully at the age of 100! She was predeceased by her husband, Lowell Ahrendsen, parents, George and Laura Siebels, sister Shirley Handel, brother John Siebels, daughter-in-law Susan Ahrendsen, son-in-law John Miller, and great-grandson Robert Miller. She is survived by her son Jeff Ahrendsen (Sheree), daughter Kim Miller, son Curt Ahrendsen (Roxane), 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends.

Wanda was born in Iowa (Amber) on November 20, 1924 and was a proud graduate of the University of Iowa, earning a degree in economics and joining Alpha Chi Omega. Wanda went to school in Anamosa and at Iowa with Dotty Ireland Cummins.  Wanda met Lowell at the University of Iowa, where he played baseball.  They were married on March 25, 1951 and eventually moved to Rochester, NY. Wanda worked at Monroe Developmental Center a community-based services for people with developmental disabilities in Monroe County, New York.

Wanda has been a wonderful supporter of Camp Courageous over the decades.   She made a beautiful donation toward the Camp Courageous Multipurpose Field as a memorial to Gayle Ahrendsen, and in honor of Kevin and Doug Ahrendsen.  Kevin & Doug Ahrendsen’s parents, Margo & Monte Ahrendsen have been huge trailblazers in the history of Camp Courageous.  A truly exceptional family!  Lowell was Monte Ahrendsen’s uncle.

In lieu of flowers, Wanda asked that memorials may be sent to:  Camp Courageous, 12007 190th Street, Monticello, Iowa 52310 or www.campcourageous.org/donate.
